Visited yesterday lunch (Tuesday). Lovely location, ambience and the food was as excellent as ever. However the service was frosty from the gentlemen who served us. He put on the only unlaid table in the room, thinking we only wanted coffee, but didn’t offer to move us to a nicer table when we explained we wanted lunch. No smile, and it felt like we inconveniencing him with our custom. Service: 3

Turned up at 1030 for coffee with a friend, which turned into another coffee, then another, then an excellent light lunch, finally got away at 2.30pm. Never felt the slightest pressure to 'get on with it and go', the staff were entirely happy to let us treat the place as though we lived there. Brilliant! (No rating for rooms as not staying). Can’t comment on the rooms as we didn’t stay, but the food is lovely. The Mistley Thorn is predominantly a fish restaurant and it’s the place to go for special occasions. I’ve been several times and the food never disappoints. Food is on the slightly more expensive side but you get what you pay for. They do set menus which look good and reasonable so if you’re on a budget then check them out before you go as they are served at allocated times. Rooms: 4 Service: 4 Location: 4
