Really good latin fusion. Service was excellent and the restaurant was very nice. I had ropa vieja and it was delicious. Price for 2 meals with one drink each and and appetizer was just over $100. Portions are very generous. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–50

I think the value for the money at Mixto is good especially considering that a skirt steak add on is $18 bucks onto any entree which is unheard of especially considering steak cuts are now almost $20/lb at the grocery store. Most philly restaurants are charging $50+ for steaks these days without sides. The skirt steak was cooked mid-rare as requested and came with a side of chimichurri that was mostly oil. Considering the steak itself was under seasoned, I’d preferred a higher quality, more flavorful chimi wit more herbs and vinegar. Nevertheless, it was a solid skirt steak on par with steaks I’ve had in Cartagena (does not touch actual Argentine asado or their chimi lol sorrynotsorry). My biggest disappointment was that I chose to dine at Mixto because they have a decent seafood selection in addition to steak, and that day they were all out of octopus and my heart was set on having octopus that day. Its weird to be out of a protein featured prominently at least in three items on the menu I ended up choosing the shrimp mofongo because I had yet to try mofongo in a sit down restaurant context. It was not mind-blowing but it was delicious nevertheless and flavorful, however the shrimp was a touch overcooked. The tostones side was perfectly and the portion size was a fantastic value for the price. My water-based passion fruit smoothie tasted just like the smoothies I’ve enjoyed in both Colombia and Ecuador. Not cloyingly sweet or synthetic tasting like passion fruit drinks at boba tea shops. I will try to come through again when the pulpo is back in house, and definitely want to have another fruit smoothie. The loss of the star for service was the fact that no one touched my table after dropping food until I was finished - it’s just an industry standard practice. I wanted more chimi because of the aforementioned issue of having an unseasoned steak with the mostly oil chimi, but alas, I just ate tbt steak as is because steak is still good even when under-seasoned. Definitely will visit again and will preemptively ask for extra chimi (or frankly bring my own because I make a great one.) Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–50 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labelled vegetarian dishes

Mixto is one of those places that makes you feel like you have stepped right into the heart of Latin America without ever leaving Philly. The atmosphere is warm, lively, and inviting, and it matches perfectly with the bold, vibrant flavors coming out of the kitchen. It is the kind of restaurant that works just as well for a fun night out with friends as it does for a relaxed dinner with family. The menu offers a great selection of authentic Latin American cuisine, with plenty of entrées and appetizers to choose from. You can tell there is real care and tradition behind the dishes, from the seasoning to the presentation. Whether you lean toward classic comfort dishes or want to try something new, there is always something exciting to order. The empanadas are a standout and one of my favorite things to get at Mixto. They come out hot, crispy on the outside, and packed with flavorful fillings on the inside. They are perfect to share at the table, but good enough that you might not actually want to share them. The drinks are very good as well and pair beautifully with the food. Cocktails are well-made, refreshing, and thoughtfully put together to complement the spices and richness of the dishes. It is easy to settle in with a drink and just enjoy the flow of the evening. What really ties everything together is the always vibrant setting and real Latin American flair. The music, decor, and energy in the room make the experience feel festive without being overwhelming. Mixto is a great choice if you are looking for delicious, authentic Latin food, good drinks, and a lively atmosphere that keeps you coming back.
