Had a very nice conversation with the owner and it turns out, she's from the same area of Karachi my grandparents and uncle are from! Was immediately on my radar to try when visiting Austin because they specifically called out being from Karachi, arguably the most famous food city of Pakistan. Most South Asian restaurants just claim to be from the general subcontinent or sometimes a specific country. But it's rare when a specific city is called out. My parents always reminisce about the great food they had when growing in Karachi, and its very rare when you can find that same taste here in America. I really wanted to bring them here to try it, but unfortunately it was already very late at night, so just quickly swung by and only got to try the Pakoras. They were cooked well and served with that classic newspaper you see back in South Asia. Tasted great too! However, they probably had a bit too much baking soda added to it. Also, I do wish they were a bit cheaper though (but I do understand their rent for this location has got to be pretty high). The chutneys they came with were awesome as well. You can especially tell the classic green and brown chutneys were authentically made from scratch and not with premade store bought mixes. The green yogurt raita was decent though only because they probably used the classic south asian yogurt brands. They tend to have a distinct, but slightly off taste. I would suggest they use the specific dahi (yogurt) you can find in Restaurant Depot - cheaper and tastes much better too! Definitely want to try the rest of the menu and will for sure be back whenever we visit Austin again! I heard from the owner they just recently opened - Inshallah, I wish them great success in their new business! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The beef samosas with the spicy sauce are the best in Austin! All of their samosas are so fresh & have a crispy, flaky texture that is perfection. Definitely recommend!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Order type: Takeaway Meal type: Dinner

I had to leave a review for Mona’s Samosas in Austin because this spot seriously surprised me. You can tell right away that Sameer (the owner) actually cares about the food and the experience. The samosas are easily some of the best I’ve had perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful and well seasoned on the inside, and not greasy at all. You can taste that everything is made fresh. The chutneys on the side take it to another level too. What I liked most is that it doesn’t feel like typical food truck food. It feels homemade, authentic, and consistent. Sameer is super welcoming and takes the time to talk to customers, which makes the whole experience even better. If you’re in Austin and looking for something quick, affordable, and actually high quality, Mona’s Samosas is 100% worth checking out. Definitely coming back next time I’m in town.
