Descending down ominous alleyway stairs and opening a heavy metallic door reveals Money Order Office (affectionately known as M.O.O) – a hidden underground den serving wine and tapas. The wine bar & restaurant is abundant with leather couches, antiques and woody ambiance. Perfect for an intimate date or a cosy up with friends on a chilly winter’s day.

The menu is Mediterranean inspired, in a shifting array of cured charcuterie meats, tangy ceviches and seared scallops. All deliciously enjoyed in an intimate underground setting. Yet another great alleyway find.

Possibly the best meal of the year!. Down driver lane and underground m.o.o. has all the style, manners and taste of a top Melbourne dinning experience. We had wines perfectly matching our chosen dishes being: to start: scallops w cauliflower puree, puffed wild rice, boudin noir and Brussels sprouts and a haloumi dish with lemon artichokes and asparagus. For mains: rabbit with pickled pappaya and green strawberries and duck w parsnip puree, rhubarb and hazelnut this may be some of the best duck in Melbourne. the service was friendly and attentive and the food was superb, we will definitely be back for more :)
