This place is fantastic but I haven’t seen it open for business in several months at least. Nothing posted on the doors however the lights are always on. I hope it comes back soon!
First off, nothing beats the eclairs at this spot. However, I just had a cannoli and it's probably the best I've had in Indiana. I will also be starting a campaign for the owner to add his world famous biscuits and gravy to the lunch menu
After reading the review of this place by one of my Yelp friends, I bookmarked it and made plans to give it a try. It's a small cafe with a motor theme (lots of gears & tools used for decor) that sits tucked away in the former Angie's List campus. The cafe has limited indoor seating on the first floor, but plenty of patio seating and lots of upstairs seating if you can climb stairs. First, finding the place is the key. The address is misleading. It's actually along Cruze Street, not Washington. From downtown, head east on Washington under the interstate bridges by College. Head east to the next light. Turn left onto Cruze. Head north slowly and when you see the old metal diner on your right, turn into that parking lot before the diner. Moto shares that lot. Inside, the place is industrial with a stairway, one table (yes that is correct) and the order counter that has a salad bar. The menu is listed on the wall behind the order counter. I was welcomed and when I asked what the cashier would recommend, she said to "always go with the weekly special". It was a Cuban sandwich so I went with that. They also have a variety of sandwiches, some soups, salads, and brownies for dessert. All beverages are kept chilled in a cooler including water. After paying, I gave my name so that they could call it out when it was ready. I headed upstairs to explore that area since I was originally planning on dining in. The upstairs has a bank of windows facing north and an exterior stairway. I thought it interesting that a tool storage container was used as a place to get your condiments (packets) and napkins (rolled paper). I headed back downstairs and noticed the cashier leave. That left the cook in the back. I wasn't sure what was going on, but after a few minutes, the cook came out with my sandwich in a to go box and so I just grabbed some napkins and headed out. It seemed a bit strange that the cashier disappeared without saying anything. Not sure what new customers would have done with nobody to give an order to. Despite the oddity, the sandwich was really good with a crispy outside to the bread and a nice blend of flavors inside. Hopefully, I will be able to try a cup of soup with my sandwich on my next visit. Note: It is easy to return downtown by heading north to Market Street and following that back. Review #3333
