I'm not usually into fusion, but this food was pretty awesome. Particularly liked the chicken lollipop in Chinese/Vietnamese sauce, and the risotto with the seafood sauce, which was super tasty with a wonderful balance of all the flavours. Although the chicken scotch egg didn't hit the spot for me (I love a classic scotch egg), the sauce it was in was nice and the egg was perfectly cooked. Our server was pleasant and very enthusiastic when talking about the food. If I'm in Subi again and wanting a sit-down meal I'll be back. Despite the cyclone threatening to crash the party (and a few no-shows because of it), The Dinner Club still showed up—because obviously, dinner waits for no weather system. This time we tried a Subiaco Asian fusion spot run by Mr Lo, and honestly how this one slipped past us until now is beyond me. We started with a couple of shared plates—tempura salt king prawns and golden crab & prawn fritters—which vanished pretty quickly, always a good sign. Then came the mains: sweet and sour pork, beef short ribs in salt and pepper, sizzling seafood combo, Singapore noodles, crispy chilli beef, and special fried rice. Proper feast. Everything had that little extra something—great flavours, really well done, nothing boring on the table. Dessert was a bit of a surprise too, a handmade cheesecake with a twist, which felt very on brand by that point. Big shoutout to Mr Lo and his wife—super friendly, great service, and just really lovely to deal with. Also worth mentioning the cocktails Asian-inspired and very easy to keep ordering while casually ignoring the fact there’s a cyclone brewing. $228 for the food, which felt pretty reasonable given how much we ordered (and ate). We’ll definitely be back—preferably in slightly less dramatic weather.
