Good mussels, great beer selection.
Came here for happy hour. Beer menu portioned according to content or vendor price. It’s a math problem for sure, just want to order some beer. If its available the selection is vast. Interior is clean and bright, a modern feel. Staff is polite unless their shift is over then its hurried.
I should start by saying this review is not because of the food, drinks, or service, but rather dismay at a policy of the restaurant. I went to Mussel Bar & Grille with my mom after a movie in Bethesda. We chose the restaurant specifically because of the list of draught beers, which we wanted to try. However, they refused to serve me because I have a vertical ID, so we left. This policy of not serving adults who are 21+ with vertical IDs is completely illogical. In DC, anyone who is under 21 at the time of getting their license will have a vertical ID, but the license does not expire until long after the owner of the license turns 21. If every restaurant adopted this policy, I wouldn't be able to have a legal drink until I'm 25, unless I want to go to the DMV for the express purpose of getting rid of my perfectly legal vertical license and turning it horizontal, to suit the aesthetic preferences of the owner. If this is a policy to keep minors from the restaurant, it is idiotic, as no minor would opt to have a vertical DC ID as their fake, I doubt that option would even be available to them. If it is to keep out young people, then good job, because I'm never returning. I understand that this is a minor gripe, but when I do renew my license in 2020, and want to get a drink that night, I'll go to one of the many fine restaurants and bars that has never refused my legal ID service.
