I loved the selection here! I've never seen a café that only sells chocolate in various forms. I'll preface this by saying that I am not a super chocolate lover, but I do love chocolate-flavored things and high quality chocolates in small quantities. I came on a pretty toasty day, starving for a snack. I ended up ordering a few different items in order to try a solid selection of Mutari's offerings. The service was friendly and helped me choose lactose-free options, which I loved! To start, I had the frozen hot chocolate with coconut whipped cream. This was nice for the first few sips, but eventually the super-thick viscous texture, bitterness, and chunks (must have been the cacao nibs) got to me. I didn't end up finishing this drink, but I did appreciate the quality of the chocolate! The epic brownie was a little too fudgy for me. I prefer chewy brownies, but this was ok in small doses. If you like rich, fudgy brownies, you'll love this one! I also got a chocolate chunk cookie (a fresh batch had just been pulled from the oven). This cookie was MIND-BLOWINGLY good. It was crunchy around the edges, chewy and gooey in the middle, and had the perfect amount of rich chocolate and salt in it. It was a bit buttery, so I did get a stomachache, but I blame that on my dietary sensitivities. No regrets with this cookie. I would definitely buy the take & bake pack next time. I'm craving it as I type. So excited to come back in the future to try other items on the menu and to show all my friends this place! Especially those delicious cookies.

We drive from SF to Santa Cruz just to get chocolate fro Mutari. Their frozen hot chocolate is the stuff of dreams - super duper deep chocolate, creamy dreamy, and RICH. The chocolate sauce is what I wish every chocolate sauce tasted like, Hershey’s is so far from being on the same level it’s on a different planet. I always get the coconut whip because it’s decadent and goes so well with the freshly roasted cacao nibs that add a delicate, fruity, toasty crunch and textural dimension. And did I mention that I’m pretty sure the entire thing just so happens to be vegan - so lactose intolerant souls like myself can actually enjoy this marvel of a milkshake with no averse consequences??!!! Their brownie is also insane (fudge, deep chocolate and HUGE) and I always get at least two of their single source chocolate bars, which are always delicious and from interesting countries. I don’t think you can buy anything bad here. Yes they’re pricey but good chocolate costs money! Parking lot is adjacent on the left looking at the building.
