What a nice lil spot. Went for beers after work. Didnt eat but the food coming out smelt and looked delicious. Background music was nice and relaxing. Will be back to eat for sure.

Such a cool little African find tucked away in Wolf Lane! We came for a taste of home and really enjoyed the pap and wors, but what made it for me was the whole African vibe. There’s something pretty special about sitting in the middle of Perth with a plate of pap and wors and being able to order a Black Label or Savanna with it! Relaxed, welcoming and full of African flavour. Definitely a spot that made these South Africans smile. Will be back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $80–100

Looking for a lunch spot in the CBD, we booked My Place Bar attracted by the African menu. It was a cold day and that the door and all the front windows were wide open made it freezing inside. Still, we persisted. We had to ask for guidance as we were not familiar with the intriguing African dishes on the menu and the, albeit friendly, bar person wasn't able to help us much e.g. 'I don't know what's in it but I don't like it much'. We ended up ordering one boerworst and two goat stews, one spicy, one mild. Neither of these dishes came with any accompaniments despite being $29 each so we also ordered two joliff rice and one plantains. This all came to $117 for 3 before the discount which is pretty hefty for what we got after waiting 50 minutes. The goat was rubbery and solidly stuck to the bone - pretty inedible. The lone boerworst was all by itself on the plate but delicious, and the goat sauce (both mild), plantains, and joliff rice were also very tasty. In fact, we abandoned the goat and put the rice in the sauce which was nice if expensive for originally over $40 each. We had a beer, a coke and a lemon, lime and bitters and had to ask for water. The conclusion was that while we were very appreciative of the First Table discount, My Place Bar could make it cosier on a cold day, have written meal explanations on the menu and someone capable of explaining further if necessary, provide free rice with dishes like the goat, and something else to go with the bare sausage, and cook the goat long and slow so it's tender and falling off the bone. Maybe a little way to go here but I still love an African option so points for that! Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2
