We stopped at Neapolis Caffè during our anniversary trip to Rome for a quick breakfast, and the experience was mixed. On the positive side, the coffee drinks were prepared very well. The cappuccino was smooth and properly foamed, and the decaf iced mocha was a pleasant surprise. Despite its appearance suggesting it might be overly sweet, the balance between chocolate and coffee was excellent. The croissant we tried was also enjoyable, with a nice buttery flavor and a flaky texture that felt fresh. These items alone made it clear why locals were stopping by the counter for coffee and pastries. Unfortunately, the English breakfast we ordered was a letdown. The toast was inconsistent, with some pieces burned to a crisp on one side and others that were barely toasted at all. The bacon was significantly undercooked and unappetizing, and the inclusion of romaine lettuce on the plate was both unusual and underwhelming, especially given that it looked pale and far from fresh. The contrast between the quality of the drinks and pastries and the disappointing cooked breakfast was stark, and it lowered our impression of the café. Service was adequate, but the atmosphere was not very comfortable. Despite the heat early in the day, the air conditioning was turned off and the doors were left open, which made sitting inside unpleasant. With a simple adjustment—closing the doors and running the AC—the space could have been much more welcoming. Overall, Neapolis Caffè seems to be a solid option if you are looking for coffee and a pastry to take away. That is clearly the strength of the establishment, and the local crowd stopping in for just that reinforces it. However, the poor execution of the English breakfast and the uncomfortable environment made it a place we would not recommend for a sit-down meal.
