this is not a place that brags about it's food from the outside. it's humble, unpretentious, and quietly gets everything right. i come here regularly for their cuban sandwiches, cafe con leche, and guava cheese pastries--the staples that have earned them a solid following in the neighborhood. i recently tried their tamales and was equally impressed by the moist masa and flavorful filling. whether i'm running errands or missing california, this is my go-to spot for quick and tasty latin comfort food.
Man this place has amazing cafe con leche. Breakfast is decent: made to order, diner-style fare, but their cakes are wonderful. They get busy in the mornings but once you get to the front they give you their full attention. My husband wanted to taste their cheesecake, there were none available by the slice but they cut a taste off of one of their whole cakes. Holy moley was that heaven. Their flaky cream puff was delicious too. We'll definitely be back for more.
The only reason why I came to this place was cause yelp recommended it and I figured. Hey good reviews! Umm I have no idea why? Am I missing something here? Their cake tasted old. To get the guys attention was like pulling teeth. He was either talking in the back or on his phone. What the hell? Came in here for the Cuban. It was decent but I noticed that they make your sandwich without using gloves. Straight up digging their hands in the meat with NO gloves. If it was NYC their health department score would be a D, do they even rotate their pastries? Thumbs up for the guava puff though. Only thing I liked about this place. Hence, the two stars.
