Good food, great service...a must try as long as you don't mind the price. Overall a pleasant experience.
My wife and I have eaten at New South monthly since they have opened. We love the ever changing menu, it truly is a farm to table experience.
I met a friend of mine for dinner here tonight. I was pleasantly surprised that when we got there, it was not busy at all. Once we were seated, the server came to take our drink order. It took probably 10 minutes to get our first beverage. Before the first drink came out, we ordered appetizers which came out pretty quickly. We had the fried green tomatoes and they were delicious. Once our drinks arrived, our server came back to take our main order. I ordered the trout with turnip greens, and my friend got the lemon roasted chicken with goat cheese and a side of mac and cheese. The entrees came out shortly thereafter, and after eating several bites of my trout, I realized that one of the tomatoes they had chopped up for the dish still had the label from the grocery store or food supplier on it. I pushed that aside and continued to eat. The trout itself was very tasty, but the turnip greens were rather lacklustre. We ordered our second drink, and that took even longer. In fact, they brought my beer but had forgotten my friend's drink. She had been drinking vodka with cranberry juice and the second time around they brought her Bourbon and cranberry. Who drinks bourbon with cranberry juice? Anyway, they fixed it and when the waiter brought her drink back out I mentioned the label on the tomato. I merely said, I'm not looking for anything free, but tell your Chef to slow down and pay attention. He offered truffles as a way to satisfy the situation, but I didn't want truffles. I just wanted an acknowledgement that the chef should slow down and not serve patrons vegetables with labels still on them. There was no apology or a mention of talking to the kitchen staff about it, so I let it ride. I still gave our server a 20% tip, because that's what I do. I would expect that the New South Kitchen should take more time when preparing their food and accommodating their guests. If the restaurant had been full, then I can certainly understand that. We were there well before closing and left well before they turned the lights off.
