This is truly a great “boutique” izakaya serving up vegan options that taste great. The place only seats 7 people at a time but it’s worth the wait outside if you find a line. We went at 5:20p, 10min before opening, on a Saturday and had no wait getting seated. Owners speak perfect English and very attentive to needs and food restrictions. They explain each dish and how best to enjoy them. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The most delicious meal I’ve had in Kyoto, Japan. The cuisine was delicate, flavourful and well presented. I’ve never experienced so many diverse flavours. Most extraordinary it was all plant based. The wife and husband couple are so welcoming. You literally watch all the food being prepared right in front of you. An amazing experience which I will come back for!! 11/10 Eric Price per person: ¥10,000+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: Vegan

Do yourself a favor and come here! We probably had the best meal in Japan at Nijiya! The service is based in a set menu, so it isn’t just a meal, but an experience. The owner is adorable and does everything by herself. The food is divine! The space, although small is very cosy. Be mindful that they accommodate a very limited number of people (6 chairs only) so I advise to come early. Price per person: ¥3,000–4,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
