I loved this place so much I actually cried a little when they closed. My family and I came here all the time...

Almost everything on the buffet was barely warm. We were there around lunch. We told the waitress and she told the kitchen and they apologized. We won't go back.

Any of you that have read my other reviews know that I'm generally pretty fair and positive in my posts. This experience left me shaking my head. Yet, I will try to be constructive, in hopes that the owners read this and use it to make improvements. We were curious and stopped by to check it for dinner. It was the "old folks dinner hour," so about 4:30pm (not busy.) The decor was an eclectic sort of mix between a Mexican restaurant, a TGI Fridays, and a worn out 70's diner; no clear motif. This, along with the name "North of the Border," only served to further my uncertainty of what type of restaurant this was. The menu carried this theme further; home-style with s featured Texmex section. As we ordered, there seemed to be a great amount of confusion, especially among the help, about the menu and what was or wasn't currently available due to being out of various items. I decided to play to their strengths and asked what they are best known for on their menu. Breakfast seemed to be there resounding answer, so I tried their Texano Omelet. Our group of four ordered fairly simple orders. We waited, and waited, and waited...The owner offered us complementary salad bar while we waited. And waited... The salad bar was poorly stocked and the lettuce looked like it had been there since the morning setup. The waitress was obviously new and her apparent lack of training was painfully clear. She did try; I'll give her credit. The steady flow of people (including one young child) in and out of the kitchen did not look like employees, nor did it look like they were working. My confidence and impression continued to be eroded. The food arrived finally! The eggs were a little tough but the fajita filling had decent flavor. The hashbrowns were crispy as requested, but also tough and flavorless. Others at our table had similar experiences with their choices. The owner told us they took over in February, which I understand working out issues, but gee-whiz! We felt like we'd wandered in the backdoor of Aunt Betty's kitchen back home and she isn't the one that knows her way around a kitchen! Hospitality is not a strength here either. There was a constant feel that we were not confident in the next step in our dining experience. The help seemed to share that feeling as well. For the owners, hire some professionals to help you get it together. For those of you that want an adventurous meal that reminds you of helping your five year old learn how to ride a two wheel bike; go for it.
