I have been going to Norwood for the past 20 yrs, off an on, when up north. I had made dinner reservations for a table by a window, 4 weeks in advance, for my sister, (who had not been there before), & myself, for cocktails & dinner. We arrived and the place was beyond packed as a wedding was in full swing, which was awesome, plus people coming in for dinner.
After checking in and the hostess was unsure of our reservation, she said, "oh, you'll see a window" and after a 15 min wait at the packed bar and not able to get drinks, the hostess was attempting to seat us at a table in the middle of a packed room, not near a window as requested on my reservation weeks before.
I asked to wait for a table at a window and we sat at the bar again, where there was one bartender making drinks for the restaurant and the wedding reception!!
We got great cocktails, (Lenny's Black Lab Whiskey Old Fashioned-sweet), from a guy filling the ice chests! After we pounded them down, we were patiently waiting to order two more of the same, but, the bartender was having a meltdown, (rightfully so), as she was slammed with orders running the bar by herself. The bartender chewed out the guy with ice buckets, loud enough to hear over a busy restaurant, who was supposed to be working behind the bar and not getting ice!! (as we observed). The owner popped in behind the bar and was mixing for a short time then disappeared? The owner came back as one customer had brought her "Wisconsin Supper Clubs- Another Round" book for the owner to sign as the Norwood Pines was featured in the edition. It was a nice gesture on the customers part, but, the owner acknowledged her and ignored her for 20 mins, as he stood behind the bar in front of her and he was doing nothing to help staff. Then he disappeared with the book to the upstairs of the Pines and reappeared handing the book to the customer and walked away? It was really crazy to watch! LOLO!(Another drink , PLEASE!!)
After 40 mins, we finally got to a table by the window. The property is stunning! We ordered dinner & the same Lenny's Black Lab Whiskey Old Fashioned-sweet drinks. In short, the cocktails were not what we ordered, (these drinks were a different concocktion & with olives,) and we asked to have the same cocktails as we understood how busy it was, it understaffed, it was not a problem for us to wait, BUT, - wait for it....the bartender sent the same wrong drinks back to us that we had sent back to her, with a message thru the server, "those are the drinks you ordered"!!! (WTH.)???
Dinner was average and portions were incredibly small. Side salads were the size of a stamp. Our waitress was trying to serve her tables and assist another server with a big party of 30 at a table in the same room. We ended up not drinking the cocktails sent back to us, could not drink the bad coffee that we had ordered and we both just wanted out of there.
As someone had recently posted in a review about Norwood Pines,"the place is run by teenagers", is true. Hard working teenagers and "20-somethings" with no leadership or direction. It's either the owners can't find people to work, not paying enough, is difficult to work for OR all of the above?
Too bad it"s not the same as it's been.
PICs- #1 the beautiful property with huge turn out, #2 drink menu, #3 cocktail we loved and would have appreciated more of. #4 & 5 got to The Little Brown Jug!!! Great local whole in the wall!
