Friendly staff. Easy to order and quick service. Beautiful meal. Garlic bread was a disappointment (hamburger bun with a tiny bit of garlic butter). Overall enjoyed our meal Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

I recently ate at Go Street on Gill Street in New Plymouth. Slightly tucked away, it is worth hunting it out and supporting a local eatery. Committed to being modern and progressive, Go Street has embraced new technology with its order-at-the-table devices. Simply select it on the iPad provided or use your phone. While some of us slightly older folk tend to prefer a menu we can touch, there is no doubt that electronic ordering is the way to go. It frees up staff. Having worked in the hospitality industry for years, I remember too often standing with pen poised (or my mind ready for some of the upper echelon places I worked where we had to memorise the order) while an indecisive patron deliberated on whether she would have the sauteed chicken or the lamb mignon. Oh, and what side will I have! Meanwhile, you are envisaging the plates ready on the pass to bring to table 10 who have been waiting patiently. All the while ensuring you are smiling politely. The decor is funky with colour and lots of nicknacks to draw you attention should your dining partner wax lyrical and get tiresome. The restaurant is sizable so if you are there early there are plenty of seating options and something to make the most of whatever the weather might throw at you in Taranaki. While it has held the prize as the sunniest town in New Zealand for several years running, it was raining on the day I ate there. The food is touted as American and it delivers on that. From the classic American burgers to the ribs, or crispy chicken and waffles to wings. The American burger has all the classic flavours you love with gherkins, bacon, cheese, lettuce and onions with a piquant relish. This was accompanied with some great fries. For those who don’t like the gherkins, or pickles, you can easily remove them but it’s time you grew up. A burger really needs the sharpness the pickle provides to balance the flavour. The wings were sweet and sticky, just the way you love them and served with a puncture sauce. For the life of me I don’t know what a puncture sauce is, and some ferreting around in Google resulted in nothing but they were tasty nonetheless. While I would have loved a bit more of a flavour hit in some of the dishes like the Makhani Chicken, it is all flavoursome and dependable nourishment that you will come away feeling well-fed.
