Wow! I have enjoyed OMO Teppan and Kitchen many times before but last night was a five-star evening. The service was stellar and personal. Kudos to Chevy for her welcome and attention to us among so many other guests. OMO is always about the food and the experience of watching it prepared right in front of you, literally you are seated at the grill watching your meat and veggies get cooked.Wednesdays are All-You-Can-Eat nights. (There is still an a la carte menu if you’re not as hungry, but I suggest bringing a healthy appetite.). Start with a great selection of appetizers, as many as you want, but don’t forget there is the main course to come. Save some space. I highly recommend the Takoyaki (octopus). It is my personal favourite and I have never found it as good anywhere else. Appetizers come out quickly as you order them and you can order more on this night. Then it is time for the show. You can choose up to four items to start (you can add more if you are still hungry but start with four) for your main course, including vegetables, shrimp, chicken, beef, calamari, tofu, beef ribs, and New York steak. I recommend the vegetables because they are so tasty cooked on the grill. The steak is cooked to order and perfectly tender. I had the calamari for the first time last night and I have to admit it was the best I have ever had. The chef is very talented with knife and spatula (he juggles these) and there is much flame and performance. And he finishes his part of the meal by juggling flaming batons at table side. You complete your meal with a choice of ice cream - I recommend adding the fried bananas to your choice - and you are done. There can be up to eight people around the grill and everyone becomes a part of the show. It is very kid-friendly. There is even OMObot, a music-playing, self-guiding robot that brings extra food dishes to the chef. It is the first one of its kind in Calgary. OMO can be noisy because they have many of these grills going so it probably isn’t the place for a quiet, romantic dinner, but if you have a birthday in your group, they will bring you cake and ice cream in a smoking box and sing to you.Reservations are HIGHLY recommended. On a Wednesday night, it was very busy.
