This is the old location. The new location is by ‘Hostal Melyang’, about an 8 minute walk from the main square. I visited a couple of times as I wanted to try some traditional Ecuadorean dishes and I was pleasantly surprised! The food was tasty, beautifully presently and of a good portion size. The ‘seafood encebollado’ cost $6 (as of 2025), a little higher than other places in the center but portion size was good and it was tasty. As many places do in Mindo, there was also a $3 lunch deal (as of 2025) which consists of a soup with a meat/rice dish. I liked this place because it was quieter compared to other places in the main square area and also, the food quality was great. The people who run the place were friendly, kind and attentive. ‘Jon’, also doubled up as a taxi driver and I used his services to get around Mindo (Cost from city center to Tarabita around $6. I will happily visit this place again the next time I am in Mindo. Thank you Jon (and Mateo too!)!. I wish you all the best with your business:) Price per person: $5–10 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Growing up my parents ran a restaurant in New York, and I can tell you it can be a rewarding and challenging business. Customers can be fickle and turned off by the smallest thing. "The lighting is too bright!" "It's too dim." "The music is too loud!" "It's not loud enough." But my mom, Anita Toscano, cooked for her customers like they were family and made sure everyone who served them did as well. At first they didn't have money to make their place look cozy, but the food and service gave them a reputation that kept them in business for over 35 years until they retired." Good food. Good service. That's what I value. How many beautifully decorated restaurants serving substandard or mediocre food stay in business far too long because tourists are tricked by all the charm. Odinm is not pretty. When we walked in the overhead lighting was so bright, it would work well in a hospital operating room. The big TV was blaring a football match. And a teen boy on his mobile phone relaxing on an outdoor table greeted us timidly. But do not judge this joint by it's décor! The food is superb. We started with a quinoa soup, and honestly I was not expecting much. How good can a vegetarian style soup be? I ate one spoonful and was transported to someone's grandmother's kitchen who can't keep her family away because of her homemade cooking. I looked by at the kitchen to see a young women I mistook for a teenager. Turns out Odinm recently opened and is run by a young couple. The soup had a depth and richness to it that signified a cook who has spent a lifetime in a kitchen. For our main meal I had the tilapia with patacones, which we call tostones in NYC. They tasted better than any I had so far on this trip to Ecuador. When I mentioned this, the owner explained they selected a special type of banana and even brought one out to show me. He had warned me that his aji, (spicy sauce) was pretty hot, so be careful. I appreciate he was looking out for my gringo tongue, but I inherited my mother's love of hot peppers ️ The owner explained they were a small pepper his family grew at their home. It reminded me of the head of the bird's-eye chili aka peri peri I've had in South Africa. It was hot and full of flavour. The tilapia was fresh and cooked beautifully. My husband had grilled chicken with rice and patacones. (He had stomach/bowel issues the day before, so he didn't want to be too adventurous.) I took a bite and it was wonderfully seasoned and grilled. Yes dogs wandered in and out, and the TV was too loud, but the staff shooed the dogs away when they were a nuisance and lowered the volume of the TV when I asked. There are so many restaurants in Mindo, it seems a shame to go to the same one twice, but in the case of Odinm, we already determined we will return once more before we leave because the service was great and the food was so damn good!
