Casual noodle place. We ordered two kinds of noodle sets , but we really enjoyed the wheat omen which has more fragrant, a bit on the softer texture. The thin noodle has springy bite/ QQ. Mackerel fish sushi was horrible, fish was fishy and came with a big block of hard sushi rice! We order a side sardine rice bowl and was a bit disappointed because the sardine is like one centimetre size of a heap of teaspoon fishes on a small rice bowl! Not much of a taste other than a big bowl of rice! Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

We ordered the hot version of the noodles, and it was very very good, fresh and tender but firm at the same time. the beef version. Omen - Shijo Ponto-cho is a renowned udon specialty restaurant located in the heart of Kyoto's historic Ponto-cho district. It is the downtown branch of a famous flagship restaurant near Ginkaku-ji. The restaurant is celebrated for its distinctive "Omen" style of serving udon, which emphasizes a harmony between thick, chewy noodles and an abundance of seasonal, farm-fresh accompaniments. The dining experience at Omen is uniquely interactive and vegetable-focused, making it a favorite for those seeking a lighter, more refined alternative to standard noodle shops. The Noodles: The udon is served either chilled or hot, typically separated from the dipping broth. The noodles are known for having a perfect "al dente" texture. The Broth: The dipping soup is a rich, dark dashi made from high-quality kelp and dried bonito, providing a deep umami base. Signature Toppings: The hallmark of the meal is a large platter of seasonal condiments. This usually includes shredded ginger, green onions, and toasted sesame seeds, alongside various Kyoto-style vegetables like sautéed burdock root (kinpira gobo), spinach, and seasonal radishes. How to Eat: Diners add the vegetables and spices into the dipping broth themselves, tailoring the flavor and texture of each bite. Meal type: Lunch Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
