The food is delicious, the atmosphere very nice and cosy and the staff is very kind. We had to wait a bit because the restaurant was full but it was not that bad and the staff lent us an umbrella to protect us from the sun. The wait was totally worth it, I fully recommend! One of the best dinners we had in Japan. Easily 10 out of 10. The portions are just right size, food is fresh and the chicken and steak dishes are both fantastic! Ootake is a small, meat-focused restaurant in Kyoto that’s well worth a visit. The space is very intimate, seven(ish) tables plus a few counter seats, with one cook and one waitress running the entire restaurant. We were a group of nine, and while they were able to accommodate us, we took up about half the place. Even so, the service was warm and attentive, and the compact menu felt intentional and thoughtfully prepared. If you appreciate a cozy, small-scale restaurant that executes a simple concept very well, this is an easy recommendation.
