Do not delay your visit – seriously, the Chinese cuisine is waiting for you. Come here for good fish, pork and baked squid if you are hungry. Most users mention that the staff is patient. This restaurant is remarkable for its terrific service. But yelp shows that the rating of Orient Kitchen is not high.

My family always took us here. Best calamari I've ever had. I can't find anyone who makes it like they do! If you're going to come here, order something that's not at every take out Chinese place. They're portion sizes are amazing. We would come in and take up the whole section that's in front of the counter. There would be an adult table and kids table. Rolling in 10-15 ppl deep!

I feel like the problem with a lot of the reviews here is that they are written by people who order things like General Tso's. I don't go here for General Tso's; in fact, I'd never eaten it before I moved to Pittsburgh. I go here because I miss the flavors of Cantonese food, which I grew up with. Szechuan and Mandarin seem to dominate out here, if/when there's actually a "type" of Chinese food the restaurant makes. My favorite items on the menu often come from the specials menu rather than the regular menu, with the top of the list reserved for the Buddha wrap. I like meat too, but the combo of veggies, noodles, sauce, and crisped wrapper is just too tasty NOT to order every time I go. The one time I got a bad one, I was crushed, but thankfully whoever's in the kitchen has since corrected the issue and my beloved Buddha wrap is just as good as ever. :) My one complaint is that nobody seems to have the specials menu online, not even their own website, so it's a little tricky to remember what I want to order when I'm calling in for take-out. Doh. *The above was written in ~2018. I happened to see this review in my Unfinished Reviews section and figured I'd finish it, even though they have since closed. I still miss them and their Buddha wrap. It's been years and I still haven't succeeded in replicating it in my home kitchen.

TL/DR: Best Chinese Food in Pittsburgh Orient Kitchen's carefully prepared dishes are full of authentic flavor so often lacking from dishes served by Pittsburgh's ethnic restaurants where everything has become lazy, bland, and sugar laden. Even dishes where sweet is the goal, Orient Kitchen serves them full of texture and with a welcome complexity and depth of flavor. I recommend the General Tzo's chicken as a first go, then branch out. Their pork fried rice, hot and sour soup and ginger chicken are all quite good as well. I'll be back and will recommend to friends and family. Bonus points for value: the weekday lunch is just 7.95 for rice, a main dish, soup and hot tea!
