I have to say that this was the most delicious pasta dish I had on my whole Italian trip. Fantastic wines, delicious suppri and a refined yet really tasty pasta menu. If you’re staying in the vicinity of Termini, this one is a must. Sadly I did t get good photos just one of the menu so I can try and replicate at home. Yesterday 16 March 2024, 17 friends from residences across Italy decided to meet for lunch at the Emasi tavern in Via Principe Amedeo in Rome, just a few steps from the station to allow those arriving by train to stay nearby and have the convenience of being able to easily take the train back to your home. It was one of those culinary experiences that absolutely left no mark and that, personally, I have already forgotten. An appetizer of cured meats with a couple of microtriangles of anonymous cheeses. And yes, there are many tasty cheeses in Lazio. Rating:5. A first course consisting of two half portions of amatriciana and cacio e pepe. An ordinarily good amatriciana and a disappointing cacio e pepe. Some of us also claimed that the pasta was overcooked. Personally, considering the quantities and serving times, if I had been the chef I would have drained the pasta 45-60 seconds before. Let's say that for my taste, we were at the maximum limit before asserting that the pasta was overcooked. The problem wasn't the cooking of the pasta, but I make the cacio e pepe better at home. Rating: 5 minus minus. The second: I asked for a lamb with hot fingers and I received the saltimbocca. I pointed out the error and after about 15 minutes when almost everyone had eaten, I ate a portion that was a little too light for a 90kg man. The lamb was good, even if the portion was really small. Rating:7. As a side dish I had asked for baked potatoes which unfortunately did NOT arrive. Rating 1. On the long table there were some bowls with salad that I couldn't taste because they were too far from me. If they had prepared 2 or 3 more they could have arranged them so that even those sitting at the head of the table, like me, could enjoy them. Alas, this was not the case. Here too, Rating: 1. Wine: they served us some wine that had the name of the Cecio restaurant on the label which owns the Osteria Emasi and which for me, having done sommelier courses, was a €2.50 wine at the supermarket. To the sense of smell there was a strong odor of alcohol and little else and it had little body. Cost €15/bottle. 2 bottles were served for the 6 guests at the end of the table. However, I'm not used to drinking wine of such low quality that in fact I didn't drink it. Rating: 3. I then asked to be able to taste the wine they had on display called Roma. On the price list, difference of €13 euros. The sensation hasn't improved much. Rating:4. I don't drink these wines. Dessert: a small slice of dessert certainly not made by them, but industrial which I absolutely did not appreciate because if I go to the supermarket for desserts like that I find tons of them and at decidedly cheaper prices. Rating:4. Correct coffee: I am from Rome and have lived in Rome for 32 years and I strongly affirm that a corrected sambuca coffee (which I continue to drink every Saturday and Sunday for lunch) is something else. There was only the imagination of sambuca and the coffee was cold. Rating 3. Last 3 notes: the place is small but nice and well looked after. Rating: 7. Room acoustics: terrible, probably due to the beautiful vaulted ceilings with exposed bricks. Rating:4 Toilet: among us there was a disabled person in a wheelchair and when he had to go to the bathroom, it was very very very difficult. As a partial mitigating factor, I say that every time you go to eat in large groups, the poorly equipped innkeeper offers a menu to make work in the kitchen easier. But it inevitably disadvantages customers' "desires", the quality suffers and the culinary experience remains anonymous, without praise and without infamy. If I wanted to eat from pre-established menus, I could go to one of the many canteens and spend 12 euros. If I go to eat in a Roman trattoria, I want to taste all the delicacies of Roman cuisine, enjoy them and be fascinated and satisfied, I want to discover the delicacies that I consider best suited to my tastes and ALWAYS choose "à la carte".
