A true hidden gem and one of the best meals we had in Italy! If you’re looking for an authentic, soul-warming Italian experience away from the tourist traps of central Florence, stop searching — Gastronomía Panico is it. Tucked away on Via Fra’ Bartolomeo, this unassuming little spot feels like stepping into a family kitchen. The entrance is so discreet it almost feels like a secret (one reviewer compared it to walking through the wall at Hogwarts, and they’re not wrong!). But once inside, the warmth hits you immediately. Owner (and his wonderful team) treat every guest like long-lost family. He personally sits down at your table, explains the handwritten daily menu with genuine passion, and recommends dishes based on what’s freshest that day. The homemade pasta is prepared fresh every morning, and it shows. I genuinely think it was the best pesto pasta of my life. The spicy tomato sauce had just the right kick, the fettuccine with porcini mushrooms was earthy and luxurious, and the portions are wonderfully generous. We also devoured a generous antipasto platter (with complimentary pickled tomatoes, olives, warm focaccia, and other little treats that kept appearing), juicy roast chicken, tender veal, and finished with their legendary tiramisù, which is easily the best I’ve ever tasted creamy, coffee-soaked perfection. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, the service is heartfelt and attentive without being overbearing, and the prices are more than fair for the quality and quantity you receive (especially with all the lovely extras they bring out unasked). This isn’t just a restaurant it’s a genuine Italian dining experience filled with laughter, great conversation, and food that tastes like it was made with love.
