No visit to Istanbul feels complete without experiencing a traditional fish restaurant. With friends visiting from Rome, I wanted to make sure this uniquely Turkish ritual became part of their memories of the city. ️ Patriça has long been a favourite among locals, tucked away across from Kalamış Marina on Istanbul’s Asian side. While it may lack the Bosphorus views many visitors seek, it more than makes up for it with warm hospitality, impeccable service, and consistently excellent food. ️ As always, the meal began with an array of cold meze before moving on to hot appetizers and, ultimately, the centrepiece of the evening: a whole turbot, fried to golden perfection and served for the table to share. Standout dishes included the creamy Girit Ezmesi, baked Saganaki, and buttery shrimp, accompanied by Sevilen İsabey Sauvignon Blanc. For the turbot, we switched to Vinkara’s Narince, a native Turkish grape that proved a wonderful match. ️ Chocolate soufflé and a delicate lor cheese dessert provided a memorable finale to a meal that perfectly captured the spirit of Istanbul’s fish restaurant culture. Judging by the empty plates and enthusiastic approval from my Italian guests, I’d say it was a success. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
