Let me be honest from the outside — PdQ Recipes doesn't exactly pull you in. The exterior looks a little sad, and I think that's a big part of why you rarely see it packed, even on weekends. And I would know — Ayala Malls Manila Bay is practically my second home every weekend. I see the foot traffic. I see where people go. This isn't usually it. I've dined at their Greenbelt and Trinoma branches before, so this wasn't my first time with the brand. I knew what I was walking into. And that's exactly what PdQ is — straightforward Filipino food, no drama. You order the kare-kare, you get kare-kare. Exactly what you'd expect, nothing more, nothing less. The kind of food that reminds you of home cooking — because honestly, it tastes like something you could pull off in your own kitchen on a good day. The interior doesn't help either. Bland, no story, no personality — parang the fit-out budget ran out before anyone could make it feel like somewhere worth staying. A restaurant's space should tell you something about who they are. This one stays quiet. Service was plain — functional but forgettable. No warmth, no effort beyond the basics. Though to be fair, when the place is running at a fraction of capacity, there's really no excuse for slow service — and at least they got that part right. Food came out quickly. So why did I land on 4 stars instead of 3? Because the food isn't bad. It hits the right notes, tastes the way it's supposed to, and the serving size and price make genuine sense together. Value for money, no arguments there. Sometimes you just want Filipino food that's honest, filling, and reasonably priced — and for that, PdQ quietly delivers. It won't be the meal you talk about at the end of the night. But it won't let you down either. Price per person: ₱500–1,000 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

Excellent food and service. The place is simple but very functional. Entrance is small and easy to miss. Try Generals Chicken and Tofu and Eggplant. Price per person: ₱1–500
