Overall, the dinner buffet at Plates, Cinnamon Grand was a good experience. The food was good, the spread was impressive, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The dessert selection also looked good on the labels. However, when I went to serve myself, many of the desserts were already empty. I was particularly looking forward to the crème brûlée, which was listed on the label, but it was not available. Watalappan was available instead. When I inquired about the crème brûlée, the staff quickly removed the label. It would be great if the desserts listed were properly replenished throughout the buffet, especially during service. A Birthday Dinner Made Extra Special at Plates We had such a wonderful experience at Plates Restaurant at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, and honestly, the food was only one part of what made the evening special. From the moment I made the reservation, the reservation and restaurant teams were incredibly helpful. They even guided me through registering for their GSA membership, which allowed me to receive a 15% discount on the total bill. As it was my boyfriend’s birthday, I asked about the price of a piece of cake. To my surprise, they offered it complimentary. When we arrived, the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming. Pramodini, if I remember her name correctly, was especially helpful in arranging my surprise for my boyfriend. Everything was coordinated so smoothly and happened at exactly the right moment, which made the surprise even more memorable. And I absolutely have to mention Gimhan, who looked after our table. His customer service was exceptional. When we started serving ourselves at the buffet, he surprised us by offering two drinks on the house. It was such a thoughtful gesture and genuinely touched us. After the meal, we were almost completely stuffed from the incredible variety of food and desserts. Gimhan then came over and asked if we would like coffee or green tea. We ordered two green teas, and only when we received the bill did we realize those were complimentary as well! The buffet itself was fantastic, with an impressive range of choices — Sri Lankan, Indian, Italian, European and Japanese cuisine, including sushi and sashimi, pickles, desserts, and even a live hopper station. There was something for every taste, and everything we tried was delicious. But what really stood out was the attention to detail and genuine hospitality from the team. These little gestures made us feel genuinely valued rather than simply being customers. Thank you to the entire Plates team, especially Pramodini and Gimhan, for making my boyfriend’s birthday dinner such a memorable experience.
