Is this restaurant permanently closed? I went during the business hour this Wednesday and I just called (October 16th 2020 at 430PM) but no answers.

What a tasty lil dumpling house. The service is always quick and kind and the food is consistently good. My family and I have come here many times and we just keep coming back for their noodles, egg soup and lamb dumplings.. best part is their rarely a wait.. FYI I don’t know what’s up with the bad reviews, maybe the negative review customers are used to McDonald’s and pickup sticks.. if ur looking for something tasty and easy at diamond center this is the place.

Rock solid Shanghainese-style Dumplings in a minuscule, yet clean and modern den. There is nothing quite like well made Xiao Long Bao, is there? These minute Dumplings begin life as balls of uncooked, minced Pork implanted with doses of Aspic. The Pork bits are then meticulously wrapped around leveled rounds of Dough, their tops folded together, crimping them shut. Once they're steamed to order, the Pork cooks and the Aspic dissolves into a scalding Soup to enjoy prior to eating the XLB normally with chopsticks. Chances are good that most know can now maneuver around one of the latest darlings in the Orange County culinary scene without the Soup blasting out of the Dumpling and onto your plate -- or worse -- you. For those that haven't: The idea is to rip a small hole in the Dumpling and suck out the delightful Soup first. That is actually the only necessary skill in eating XLB. This is, of course, all thanks to the powerhouse force of a restaurant known worldwide as Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese restaurant chain that was able to get Xiao Long Bao trending on Instagram. When it opened three years ago with seven-hour-long-plus lines at South Coast Plaza, it changed everything and there has been no looking back. Fast forward a few years and enter Allan Tea, whose family owns the Capital Seafood empire. He obviously saw the inevitable  XLB Wave coming and quickly joined forces with Kenny Lim, whose family owns Mama Lu's Dumplings in Monterey ParkIn case you were not aware, Mama Lu's is thought in most circles Din Tai Fung's most imposing competitor in the greater Los Angeles area and for good measure he also employed a Chef from Din Tai Fung itself. So, how are they you ask? Good. Damn good really. Not exactly ready to take on the New York Yankees of XLB quite yet but an easy #2 for Orange County and at $10.00 for 5 Dumplings worth of Black Truffle XLB easily the best value in the game. The Soup has a high Black Truffle concentration that never overwhelms the rest of the flavor profile and the Pork mixture has a glorious mouthfeel. The only detractor is the fact that the Dumpling shell itself is quite a bit thicker than Din Tai Fung but it is also immeasurably more forgiving meaning less of a chance of accidental tear which destroys an XLB Dumpling the moment it occurs. The rest of the menu is also notable. Killer Gyoza-like Pan Fried Dumplings, incredible Noodles in both Spicy and a Peanut laden Sesame Sauce, Appetizers that are perfect for Tapas sharing, and even one hell of a Scallion Pancake are all available. This works best of the table shares even if you are a party of two. Even the service is as strong as oak and that is unheard of at Diamond Jamboree. Conversely, the parking situation is still as painful and emotional scarring as you recall. I tend to park in the overflow adjacent to H Mart and walk it out rather than risk my car catching a dent. I suggest you do the same. I am a huge Paper Lantern Dumpling House proponent and although I could argue in value and line times this is a 5-Star Dumpling joint, I need to temper expectations as the XLB crowd is nearly as snobby as Ramen, Sushi, Pizza, and Pastrami. Make the stop.
