Walked in as soon as they opened up for dinner hours and much time my surprise, they offered a fantastic happy hour. I opted for the butter chicken meal deal and it was worth every dollar I spent. I also added an order of the Manchurian wings, which were packed full of great flavor with a nice little kick to it. The naan bread was actually exceptional, with this sort of citrus twist that kept me coming back for more. I’d definitely recommend this spot to friends and will definitely be back next time I’m in town. Price per person: $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

We came on a Wednesday and were able to find seats at the bar. The interior is stylish, cozy and welcoming. Love all the decorations. Happy hour is excellent at Pappe. All food pictured are from the HH menu. We ordered the butter chicken special, samosa, gobi, and chicken tikka. Butter chicken comes with basmati rice, garlic naan and a drink. The flavor is top notch and such a great deal. Tandoori chicken is well seasoned and really tender. Gobi is fried and tossed in a finger licking sauce, although a bit on the salty side. The service at the bar is prompt, though not as warm as I expected. That said there’s no auto tipping added to our check as other diners mentioned. Overall a great experience and I’ll definitely be back for that butter chicken special! Reviewed on Instagram @ryrythefoodie ️ A brief, solo dine-in at "Pappe Indian Kitchen & Bar" in Logan Circle, NW DC, proved a worthwhile dinner! The meal: The head-on "Wild Shrimp Coconut Curry" ($30) was really tasty. To be honest, I've never eaten the shrimp heads before...It took me a second to muster up the courage, but they added the right texture to the rest of the dish, which was full of incredible flavors! It also had a slight kick, but nothing too crazy. The whole wheat "Roti" ($5) and diner favorite "Garlic Naan" ($6) were also top-tier. They each were soft and doughy throughout the meal and complemented the curry just right. I always ask Indian restaurants if they have plain old "sweet lassi", but alas, Pappe does not offer it. I figure most diners enjoy the more common "Mango Lassi" ($9), which was still really amazing and creamy here, but Pappe, if you make it, I will buy it!! Dessert: The "Cardamom Ice Cream" ($8) came recommended after interrogating my super kind waiter, Quinn, about what is popular and what isn't popular. His suggestion about the ice cream was on point! It was simple, but very delicious Thank you ️‍ Side note: It was nice to see two gender neutral bathrooms here. I try to mark these for any non-binary/transgender foodies looking for places with accommodating restrooms. As a transwoman myself, the public bathroom issue can be nerve-wracking when in an unsure environment, and gender neutral bathrooms severely help alleviate fears of bigotry when one has to do their business. Instagram hashtag: #genderneutralbathroomsindc Overall, the food and vibe here was very nice! Customer service, presentation, and decor, too, added to the enjoyable experience. Great for solo diners, couples, and small groups. PS: a 20% tip is automatically included to check subtotals. I also arrived unannounced right as they opened at 5pm, which might have contributed to my quick seating on a cold Sunday evening. A reservation probably wouldn't hurt. My rating: 5/5 stars I'd love to try other items on their menu! Had my eye on the Vindaloo and Saag Paneer for next time Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Large vegetarian selection Vegetarian options: Indian cuisine generally has plenty of vegetarian options available, so if you've never had it before, you should be ok with what is offered at most Indian restaurants.
