Please don’t let the staff/host push you into taking the old, dead fish that’s been sitting on the hot plate — say NO ‍: “I’m not paying for that. I want fresh fish & chips and I’ll wait, same as the regulars.” It’s honestly depressing how customers get treated ‍️ — the quality is crap , people walking out with rotten chips and looking miserable and when I was there it was 6pm and I was only the 3rd customer in the whole shop . So yeah — don’t let them pressure you into taking old food. Stand your ground. Honestly this place is depressing. I went in thinking I’d get a nice, fresh bit of fish & chips, but it turned into one of those “why did I even bother?” experiences. I ordered a £9 medium cod, and I’m not exaggerating when I say I had to tell them to make it fresh. They literally tried to give me a piece that looked like it had already been sitting there, layered around on the hot plate like it was ready to be shoved in a bag to “cut corners.” ‍ I had to say no — don’t give me the one sitting there, cook me a fresh one. The cod (the main reason I came) The cod I got was just not it: ️ Oily and heavy – like it soaked up old oil instead of being crisp and clean The batter felt more greasy than crispy The fish itself didn’t feel “fresh cooked” — more like it had that reheated / sat-around vibe The overall taste gave “typical rough chippy” instead of proper cod and chips Chips & overall food quality The chips looked like old chips mixed in with new chips (that sad combo of pale, soft ones + a few newer ones) ️ Everything looked like it was cooked in tired, overused oil The food display just didn’t inspire confidence it all looked dry, dark, and a bit grim Service & vibe Customer service is basically non-existent. It’s that dead, robotic vibe where you feel like you’re interrupting them by ordering food. No warmth, no care, no “here you go mate” — just silence and attitude. And the place itself? It genuinely feels like: a GP surgery meets a fish & chip shop Cold, flat, run-down, and just not welcoming. Cash only in 2026? This is the part that really finished it for me. Cash only, so if you don’t have cash you’re basically forced to walk 10–15 minutes away to find a cash machine. That’s not “old school charm” — that’s just annoying and inconvenient. Value for money £9 for a medium cod that I had to demand fresh, plus the overall oily, old-food vibe? The value is way too high for the quality. It feels money-hungry and low effort. Loads of options, loads of “deals”, lots of local regulars but the food looks rough, the oil seems old, the service is dead, and the vibe is depressing. Would I return? Absolutely not. One of the worst, most “typical shitty oily chippy” experiences I’ve had. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £1–10 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
