We came here for tea and really enjoyed ourselves. This is a great place to visit for high tea as the Empress is not quaint like it used to be. There were a few selections to choose from and it was easy to substitute when there was dietary restrcitions. We were all full and satisfied. The staff were super friendly, the ambiance perfect and the food yummy. Service: 5

Formerly known as the Gatsby Mansion, the magnificent Victorian-era Pendray Inn and Tea House offers a boutique experience for those in search of a little old time romance. Today, the Pendray family home is an iconic fixture on the city’s Inner Harbour, built in 1897, offering a unique insight into the heritage and culture of the Victorian period. I was told because it haunted if you stay in room #5, you will see two ghostly heads emerge from the walls and sort of circle each other. They may try to talk, but their words are impossible to make out. These heads are Pendray and son, haunting the places of their untimely deaths. So we avoided this room as William Pendray's spirit roams the home after being decapitated by a pipe. With its remarkable history, outstanding service, and the one-of-a-kind Pendray Tea House, our hotel is a destination unlike any other in Victoria. They have great tea & food and service. Before coming out to Victoria, I am looking for tea places again and thought to try somewhere different
The host, waitress were both rude and you do not get so much food for the price you pay. I have tried other places and I found this place a big no for me
Go to the White Heather in Oak Bay Area, different owner but still seem the same and friendly staff
There was a couple of places but they are closed down
I will try the Empress one day, just to see what they are all about
You pay for the ambiance but I want to eat good for that price
Just a big disappointment from me, I would give no stars but whatever, nice big home
