A memorable birthday celebration for Mom at Peninsula House. Housed within the historic India House, this striking Art Deco landmark was completed in 1937 and has worn many hats over the decades, from financial and government offices to the United States Information Service library before being lovingly restored into the restaurant it is today. Part of the experience begins long before the first course arrives. The discreet, almost hidden entrance creates a sense of curiosity, leading guests up a grand staircase where the building's history slowly unfolds. The journey upstairs feels like stepping back in time before emerging into a dining room where old and new coexist beautifully, aged architectural details, soaring ceilings, and original character thoughtfully complemented by contemporary design. What made the evening even more special was the hospitality. The team took the time to share stories about the building's fascinating past and explain the inspirations behind each dish, adding a personal touch to the celebration. Behind the scenes, the restaurant also maintains a hydroponic garden, where some of the vegetables are harvested fresh for the kitchen. Despite the restaurant being busy, the dishes arrived promptly and were beautifully presented. Peninsula House is more than a restaurant, it's a thoughtful revival of one of George Town's architectural treasures. For Mom's birthday, it provided not only a wonderful meal but also a journey through Penang's history, wrapped in warm service and a beautifully restored space. Had a wonderful dining experience here. If I’m not mistaken, the staff member who served us was Qingying. She was very friendly, patient, and took the time to explain the menu clearly to us. The restaurant has a very comfortable and pleasant atmosphere, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be coming back for a second visit. Highly recommended! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
