Emperor Go-Hanazono Cremain Mound can be on your route by default, the clients' recommendation is to visit this restaurant. It's a must to try great coffee when coming to Peppermint. It is open from 7 am. With its large west-facing glass windows creating an airy atmosphere, this café is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a leisurely coffee; smoking is also permitted. The owner provides very attentive service and has been running the café in this location for over 40 years. Although it faces Horikawa-dori, it is set back from the main street, making it a quiet spot. マスターがとても丁寧にサービスをされています。 堀川通に面していますが、メインの堀川通からは距離があるので静かです。西向きにガラス窓が大きく開放的な店内でゆっくり喫茶の時間を楽しめます。喫煙も可能です。 Price per person: ¥1–1,000

OUTSTANDING place. The owner is a great guy. Very friendly and will worth with you as best as he can in English (which is pretty good). I speak reasonably good daily use Japanese and he was even better. Introduced me to local man who makes the cloth used in kimonos. Right there in Kyoto! A wonderful breakfast for ¥700. Maybe the biggest salad I’ve had in a “morning set” like this. He even gave me a bottle of water to take on my bike ride around Kyoto that day. “Service”, as they say here (a freebie).
