There are restaurants you visit for the food, and then there are places that stay with you because they make you feel something. As someone who’s travelled the world for film, premieres, and countless dining experiences, it’s becoming increasingly rare for a restaurant to genuinely surprise me. Peridot did exactly that. Perched on the 38th floor of The Henderson, the moment the elevator doors opened I knew this wasn’t going to be an ordinary afternoon tea. The interiors are simply breathtaking: dreamlike shades of green, sculptural lighting that sparkles like jewels, sweeping views across Hong Kong, and a space that somehow feels both futuristic and intimate. It’s effortlessly glamorous without feeling pretentious. I visited with a party of 4 to experience their vegetarian afternoon tea, and every course was beautifully considered. I honestly never found myself missing meat. The Impossible Meat Slider was surprisingly satisfying, the heirloom beetroot tart was vibrant and refreshing, and I loved the playful nod to Hong Kong with the artisanal scones served alongside a mini pineapple bun. Every detail, from the jewel-inspired presentation to the colourful tea cups, made the experience feel special. The cocktail programme is truly something else. My absolute favourite was Maiz Trilogy. As someone who appreciates a beautifully crafted whisky, this was right up my alley. Rich, layered and incredibly smooth, it had the kind of depth that slowly unfolds with every sip. It felt sophisticated, comforting and memorable all at once. I also loved El Beso del Desierto, which offered an elegant balance of smoky mezcal, earthy notes and subtle red fruit, while the bespoke Henderson Green mocktail was bright, refreshing and wonderfully creative. What impressed me most is that Peridot isn’t simply beautiful for Instagram, although it certainly is. Behind the striking design is genuine creativity, from the terroir-inspired cocktails to the thoughtfully crafted plant-based cuisine. Everything has a story, and you can feel the passion behind every detail. After travelling extensively and dining in some incredible cities around the world, it’s always exciting to discover somewhere that feels genuinely original. Peridot is one of those rare places that offers more than just a meal, it creates an experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, catching up with friends over afternoon tea, or looking for one of Hong Kong’s most elegant cocktail destinations, Peridot is absolutely worth visiting. I’ll definitely be returning, especially to explore more of their exceptional cocktail menu. Extremely disappointing service and hospitality. They kicked us out!!! If you want to have the worst night in Hongkong do go here :/ My sister and I visited Peridot without a reservation. Before coming, I had tried contacting the bar through Instagram and WhatsApp but received no response, so I called instead. I was told to come at around 5:30 PM and that they would try to arrange a table for us around 5:45 PM. We arrived at approximately 5:15 PM and were initially asked to stand at the bar because there were no seats available. This was completely fine and understandable since we did not have a reservation. We ordered drinks, and after around five minutes, we were seated at a table at approximately 5:45 PM. At around 6:55 PM, while I had not even finished my first cocktail, a male staff member abruptly came over with the bill and told us we needed to leave because they had other customers. He did not ask whether we wanted another round or explain that the table was needed and offer an alternative place to sit or stand. I politely explained that I was planning to order more drinks and wanted to stay for the live music later that evening, but his response was still essentially that we needed to leave. His manner was extremely dismissive and made us feel very unwelcome. This was even more confusing because that another staff member ( a white lady ) who had been extremely kind and professional, later explained that guests could stay for 90 minutes and then continue by purchasing additional drinks. We were completely willing to do exactly that. This directly contradicted how the male staff member handled the situation. If the table was reserved later, that would have been completely understandable. A professional response could simply have been: “This table is reserved, but if you would like to stay for the live music and continue ordering drinks, we can try to accommodate you elsewhere.” We would even have been happy to return to the bar counter. Instead, we were made to feel as though we were simply being kicked out, despite being willing to continue ordering. I have worked in customer-facing roles in the nightlife/pub industry and have visited bars in different countries, so I understand that tables need to be managed and reservations accommodated. My issue is not that a particular table may have been needed, it is the unnecessarily rude and dismissive way the situation was handled. The cocktails we tried were okay, and my sister enjoyed hers, but for a venue with Peridot’s reputation, this was some of the most disappointing hospitality I have experienced. One staff member was genuinely lovely and professional, but unfortunately the way we were treated by the other staff member completely ruined the experience and we no longer wanted to spend another minute there. I also have a video from our visit in which the staff member involved is clearly visible, should management wish to identify who was serving us and look into the incident.
