I came away feeling that Persimmon is overrated at its current 4.6-star rating. There are definitely things it does well, but as a family that eats out frequently and tends to hold nicer restaurants to a higher standard, none of us left particularly impressed or feeling eager to return. We had a large party of eight and sat outside on a beautiful evening. I had actually seen the Google AI summary suggest sitting outside because it is quieter, but the patio was still fairly loud. I think it probably works better for smaller parties. With eight people, our table extended pretty far toward the curb, and several of the outdoor tables were noticeably uneven. That's a small detail, but at a restaurant positioned at this level, leveling the patio tables would make the setting feel much more polished. The biggest disappointment was the service. Everyone who helped us was friendly, so this wasn't an attitude issue at all. It was simply very slow and inconsistent. Drinks took a long time, we weren't checked on very frequently, and several times we found ourselves waiting. We actually would have ordered considerably more to drink if the service had been more attentive. I don't know whether they were understaffed that evening or whether servicing a large table was simply difficult, but with automatic gratuity already included for our party, the overall level of service was underwhelming. Food was better, although still somewhat inconsistent. My brother had the scallops with mushroom risotto and finished every bite. The presentation throughout the meal was also very attractive. My stepfather's chicken, however, was quite dry. My sister thought the short ribs tasted a little too much like barbecue sauce. I tried them and thought they were good, but they were missing that extra depth or "wow" factor I would expect at this price point. I ordered the seafood soup. The seafood itself tasted very fresh, which I appreciated, and again the presentation was excellent. The broth, though, could have been rounder, richer and more full-bodied. Dessert didn't really change our impression. My wife and I shared the crème brûlée, something we normally love, and didn't finish it. The caramelized top was unusually thick and the custard underneath was warmer than we prefer. We like that contrast of a delicate crisp shell with cooler custard underneath. My stepfather had a pastry-and-ice-cream dessert and enjoyed those components, but felt the chocolate sauce tasted more like a basic milk-chocolate syrup. The cocktails were another weak point. The Old Fashioned wasn't particularly good, and my brother wasn't impressed with his Moscow Mule either. I switched to a Blue Moon afterward and was surprised that it arrived without an orange slice. That's obviously a very small thing, but again, it's one of those details I would expect a polished restaurant to get right. On the positive side, the restaurant itself is attractive, the restroom was clean, parking was easy, and we paid around $7 using ParkMobile in a lot just off the street. After seeing the interior, I also think a group our size probably would have been more comfortable dining inside. Overall, we had a wonderful evening because we were together as a family and the weather was beautiful. Persimmon itself, though, didn't live up to the expectations created by its rating. The food ranged from good to disappointing, the presentation was consistently strong, but the service and several smaller details kept the experience from feeling like a 4.6-star restaurant. For us, it was a one-time visit rather than somewhere we'd be looking forward to returning.
