I ordered the Mi Xao with my wife. The food was expensive for how low quality it was. The noodles were just dried noodles (not fried) and some of the vegetables tasted soapy. Servers were not friendly. The atmosphere was fine with clean tables and a decent interior with music of a good volume. More often than not, I always get an urge to satisfy my pho cravings, even on a hot day. I went to visit the hubby in MPLS, MN and this was one of those days. Located near the University of Minnesota, Pho Mai Dinkytown was just just the spot! I got the usual suspects. First on the line-up as appetizers was the Shrimp Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce. I always ask for Nước Chấm because I love that salty and sweet compliment to the fresh vegetables and grilled shrimp. For our entrees, the hubby got the Grilled Pork Bahn Mi. The bread was definitely fresh, crispy and yet fluffy on the inside. The pork was marinated well with flavors of lemon grass and soy. The pickled vegetables in the sandwich had a nice tang and perfect amount of crunch. The addition of fresh cilantro always adds a fresh and herby after taste that you would expect from a good Vietnamese sandwich. I of course, opted for the Beef Combination Pho that comes with sliced rare beef, tendon, flank, brisket and tripe. The pho broth was flavorful and not watered down or salty, and you definitely taste the authentic Vietnamese flavors you expect from a great bowl. Last but not least, a Vietnamese meal is not complete until you down a cup of Vietnamese iced coffee. You know your craving has been satisfied when you walk away from a restaurant smiling and planning when you can come back. On my next visit, I'm sure I will have the pho again but will try the Bun Bo Xao as well.
