Pholklore feels like the pho franchise that’s slowly taking over half of Geelong and I’ll give them credit — they’re definitely trying some more innovative pho combinations instead of just sticking strictly traditional. I tried the katsu laksa pho with extra chicken and overall it was decent. First thing though, my soup came out a bit too lukewarm for my liking. Personally when I eat pho, I want it absolutely brimming hot so you can get those proper steamy slurps and the broth keeps heating everything as you eat. This one lost a bit of that comfort factor because of the temperature. The noodles were also the thinner style — almost like those lighter pad thai-style rice noodles rather than the thicker traditional pho noodles. It made the bowl feel a bit more modern and interesting, although honestly I’m not sure I preferred it over classic pho noodles. The katsu part was what intrigued me most because fried chicken inside soup can easily go terrible once it turns soggy. Surprisingly though, the coating actually held up pretty well in the broth and I think they intentionally designed it that way. Still, if you’re someone expecting crispy katsu bites throughout the meal, you’re probably better off asking for it on the side because naturally it softens sitting in soup. Flavour-wise, you can tell this pho is made more for the local audience and broader crowd rather than hardcore traditional pho lovers. As someone who usually leans more traditional with pho, I still thought it was a fun experiment and I wouldn’t say I disliked it at all. Just more of a modern fusion interpretation rather than something replacing a classic proper pho experience for me. Price per person: $20–40 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Was on a weekend away in Ocean Grove and we popped out for some Pho before going to a gig. What a great place to consume delicious food, love how casual but organised the dining room looked, and the staff were incredibly friendly! If I lived in the area this would be my local :) Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
