The BEST bakery in the region when you compare quality, service, price and serving size! It's a no contest win for these guys! Plus, the fact they have won best Kitchener bun in Australia alongside having a queue out of the door every lunchtime says it all. All bakeries in the region need to take a leaf out of their book. Fantastic - 5 stars. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

review no. 75 of 2024 Pik a Pie Bakery On a miserable wet and cold Adelaide day I ventured down to the home of South Australia's best Kitchener Bun, Pik a Pie bakery @ McLaren Vale. Congratulations Justin on winning that award on Saturday night at the SA Baking Awards. Had 2 pies to try 1. Mexican Cheeseburger Pie $5.80 The presentation of the pie looked pretty neat, loved the look of the lid with the chilli flakes, the pie had a nice golden yellow look to it. The pastry was baked well, similar size along the base, sides and not one raw bit of pastry The lid was nice and soft to bite into and not too flakey. The filling smelt amazing, I knew I was in for a treat. The filling was pretty good, had all those cheeseburger flavours with a bit of Mexico thrown in. The mince seasoned nicely and the jalepneo gave it that "hot" edge you'd be looking for in a Mexican style of pie. The cheese, ketchup and mustard flavours worked really well with the Mexican touch. The flavours weren't overpowering at all. Justin had figured out the flavours nicely. The stability and consistency of the filling was really good, nothing really dribbled out apart from a touch of juice, just goes to show the juiciness of the mince. No grissly bits whatsoever. Outstanding. The serving temp was spot on and the pie held up together perfectly. Maybe the BAA need a cheeseburger category on its own ? Because I reckon in my eyes this pie is a winner. For the price it's a really good pie. To keep it under 6 bucks and to pump out a quality product is awesome. 2. Chicken Yiros pie $5.80 For all you non South Australians a yiros is basically a souvlaki. The presentation of this pie looked amazing yet again. Just goes to to show the baker takes pride in their work. The pastry looked to be baked pretty well, it had a nice colour to it, the lid had a nice dark golden look. The lid wasn't to flakey, nice and soft to bite into. The sides and base looked to be baked well and of similar thickness all the way around. Couldn't notice any shrinkage. Biting into the pie was just like a chicken yiros minus the lettuce hahaha. I could smell that wonderful garlic aroma. The pie looked nice and full. The chicken tasted nice and fresh, with bite sized pieces, mixed with the onion and I reckon it was tomato, combined with the garlic sauce the pie tasted amazing. They've got all the components in a pie and pulled it off flavour wise. The garlic sauce in the pie completed it off nicely, just the right amount. The consistency was pretty spot on. The serving temp was good and the pie held up together fine. Let's give Justin's award winning Kitchener Bun a plug too - The presentation looked really nice, beautiful, the cream was fresh, the bun tasted nice. It was a nice treat to finish off with. It wasn't that sickly sweet you get with some buns. Highly recommend the Kitchener Bun !! There's some tables and chairs outside so you can sit down and gave a feed. There's another bakery outlet in Meadows, which I'll pop the address down below.
