As a certain famously uncompromising food critic once said: “Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere.”... Today in Rome, I think I finally understood what he meant... I stopped by this little place with my beloved wife and our son, really just looking for a coffee and something sweet. We walked out having discovered the best shake I have ever had in my life, an absolutely brilliant iced coffee, and a truly wonderful lemon cake. We certainly weren’t expecting a great culinary discovery. That made it all the more delightful. The place itself may be small in size, but it is enormous in flavour and wonderfully rich in atmosphere. There is something genuinely warm and charming about it — and the excellent music makes you want to stay much longer than you originally planned. Sometimes something seemingly simple, when made to absolute perfection, can bring more pleasure than the most elaborate dish. That shake was exactly such a thing. At the end of his famous review, Anton Ego promised that he would return, hungry for more. I can only say this: if we ever find ourselves in Rome again, we will return for exactly the same reason. Bravissimi. Update- one day later... Well… Anton Ego was right. We returned hungry for more. And much sooner than expected. After yesterday’s completely unexpected little culinary revelation, today we came back,this time for lunch. Perhaps that was a mistake, because now leaving Rome has become considerably more difficult. I work with Italians, so I have learned one important thing: pasta may look simple, but Italians take it very, very seriously. And rightly so!!! The carbonara we were served today was simply extraordinary. Creamy without being heavy, beautifully balanced, intensely comforting,one of those dishes where apparently very little is happening, and yet absolutely everything is happening exactly as it should. My son(12y), who normally does not comment much on food, practically cleaned the plate with religious devotion and announced that it was the best culinary experience of his life — excluding, naturally, his mother’s cooking. Some diplomacy, fortunately, is instinctive. :)))). I had the salmon with fresh greens, tomatoes and olives. Again: nothing unnecessarily complicated. And yet it was wonderful-light, delicate, fresh, almost dancing across the plate in slow, seductive movements. It needed absolutely nothing more. Sometimes restraint is the greatest form of sophistication. My wife, who has food allergies, was very thoughtfully accommodated and received a delicious chicken dish. Once again, simplicity executed with confidence, care and precision. And perhaps that is what impresses us most about this place: nothing seems designed to impress you and somehow everything does. A very special word must also go to the wonderful lady who looked after us as a waiter. Her warmth, natural elegance and beautiful maturity added yet another unforgettable ingredient to the experience. Hospitality cannot really be taught from a recipe. Some people simply possess that rare ability to make strangers feel genuinely welcome- and she certainly does. And yes… we committed the inevitable sin of repeating yesterday’s dessert: the shake, the lemon cake and the ice cream. We had to. Scientific confirmation was required. The result of the experiment? Still magnificent. Yesterday I wrote that if we ever found ourselves in Rome again, we would return. Apparently, we couldn’t even wait that long. What a wonderfully unpretentious little place. What remarkably good food. And what genuinely lovely people. For our family, this was not simply lunch. It was a very fine little Roman experience that we will remember with enormous affection. Bravissimi! once again. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

My daughter and I were finishing up our last day in Rome. It was late. We were hot, tired and hadn’t eaten. We stopped here and inquired about eating. The owner said they were closing/closed. But….he opened the door, ushered us in and served us regardless. Such a kind gentleman. We had pizza and focaccia. They were delicious! One of the best meals we’ve had on our trip. We highly recommend this restaurant. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
