Excellent service! We were moved to a better table when a cancellation came up, without even asking. They also offered us a complimentary main course to taste. I’ve been to almost every well-known restaurant in Athens and I’ve never been offered a free main course (and honestly, I don’t care why). The food was great too, but it was the service that made the difference. Will definitely visit again. Service: 5

A New-Age Athenian Kafeneio With a Soul I still believe in flavor, warmth, and truth! In a city overflowing with over-conceptualized dining rooms and self-conscious “bistros,” Plyta stands apart — a kafeneio of the new era, yet deeply rooted in the old virtues: generosity, authenticity, and soul. You don’t just walk in; you’re welcomed — with real smiles, the kind that reach the eyes. No performance, no pretense. Here, you and your company are the protagonists, and everything else — the music, the light, the scent of wood and fire — simply harmonizes around you. The food is a revelation in understatement: dishes born from wood, smoke, and memory, executed with the precision of a fine restaurant and the ease of a village kitchen. Every bite feels both familiar and thrillingly new — the kind of food that lingers long after you’ve left. The savoro-style livers carry deep, honest flavor — the acidity perfectly pitched, the texture silk. The handmade sausage, perhaps the finest in Athens, is unapologetically rustic yet balanced, its smokiness echoing the hearth. The bread is simply magical — crusty, fragrant, alive. The short rib sings of patience and fire, tender to the touch. Even the pickles, sharp and bright, feel crafted by someone who truly cares about the in-between notes of a meal. And then, the desserts. What happens here borders on culinary subversion. The pastry chef of Plyta has hacked patisserie itself — working alone, yet somehow redefining what sweetness means in Greece today. His creations are at once minimal, emotional, and technically flawless, setting a new benchmark for dessert craftsmanship in the country. Plyta is not just a place to eat. It’s a quiet cultural statement — that warmth and depth still matter more than trend, and that a true kafeneio can be modern without losing its soul. It’s Athens at its most honest. And it tastes unforgettable. Price per person: €30–35 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
