I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was genuinely unacceptable — especially for a restaurant positioning itself as Thai fine dining at this price point. The food was, frankly, disappointing. Calling it “average” would actually be generous. Many ordinary local restaurants serve far more flavorful and satisfying Thai food than what was presented here. Nothing stood out, nothing justified the pricing, and certainly nothing made me want to ever return. However, the biggest issue was the service speed and overall professionalism. The food took an unbelievably long time to arrive — to the point where it became uncomfortable and frustrating rather than enjoyable. The final dish, the crab omelette, was especially unacceptable. After waiting an extremely long time, we asked the staff for an update, only to be told that the kitchen had repeatedly remade the dish because the omelette “wasn’t fluffy enough,” so the chef refused to send it out. At that point, I honestly wondered whether we were paying customers or experimental subjects waiting for the kitchen to successfully practice the recipe. If a dish is so difficult that the kitchen cannot execute it properly in a reasonable timeframe, perhaps it should not be on the menu at all. Customers should not be held hostage waiting indefinitely for the chef to finally get it right. To make matters worse, the restaurant also appeared severely understaffed. Trying to get anyone’s attention required constantly turning around and searching for staff. For a restaurant operating at this level and charging these prices, this was simply not acceptable. Fine dining is not just about presentation or pricing — it is about consistency, timing, execution, and professionalism. Unfortunately, this experience failed in all fronts. Proong – Thai Home Kitchen, located inside The Local Sukhumvit 23. The restaurant serves a 12-course Thai tasting set, designed for sharing. It’s perfect for coming with friends or family and enjoying a variety of dishes together. The flavors are authentically Thai, with a slightly tangy profile that makes the meal very enjoyable and easy to keep eating. We went as a group of three and couldn’t finish everything—there was still enough to take home. We also secretly requested a birthday petite, and the restaurant kindly prepared a cute ice-cream dessert for the celebration. It was a very thoughtful touch and made the experience even more memorable. Overall: delicious food, great atmosphere, and excellent service. Very good value for the experience. If you enjoy Thai cuisine, this place is definitely worth trying. Reservation by phone is recommended.
