After basing my stay in Hiriketiya around being able to have dinner at Raa, I was so disappointed. I booked a table for sunset and was seated at the back of the restaurant with an obscured view when only 25% of tables were occupied. I ordered the prawn and lentil fritters as starter and pork curry and roti and a cocktail. The starter came out very quickly which makes me wonder how fresh it was. It was flavoursome but dry. At this point my cocktail hadn’t even arrived. Then before I finished the starter the main was brought out which made me feel very rushed. I had only been sat down for 15 mins. The curry lacked flavour and was very salty. Over the next 45 minutes my water wasn’t topped up nor was I asked how the food was or whether I would like desert. So I waited a while and eventually asked for the bill and after being charged 10% for non existent service, left the restaurant. After an amazing meal and service at smoke and bitters the night before, Raa was so off the mark. Price per person: Rs 9,000–10,000 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

One of the most cozy and aesthetically beautiful places in Hiriketiya. The experience felt truly special — from the luxurious Sri Lankan food and drinks to the unique arak-making experience during their sundowner slot, where fresh arak is collected directly from the coconut tree bark. The atmosphere, hospitality, and overall vibe completely won me over. Their homemade arak cocktails were exceptional, and they also offer many great vegetarian options. A place that genuinely stays with you long after you leave — definitely one of the best spots in Hiriketiya, and somewhere I’d love to visit again. Best curry I had in Sri Lanka, everything was delicious. Atmosphere was great sitting by the beach for sunset. Unfortunately the service was lacking and it took aaaaages for us to initially order and then every time we wanted more cocktails. I ordered the lagoon prawn curry (isso hodda) as had seen it on socials and was so excited! I showed the staff and they said they had it. Sadly though, it came out and was just normal prawns. Ultimately, food and cocktails were great and I’d go back just for the food again. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: Rs 6,000–7,000 Food: 5 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 5
