We recently spent three nights at this hotel, which markets itself as a four-star design hotel. Unfortunately, our experience was far from this and, in many respects, felt closer to a one- or two-star standard. One of the biggest disappointments was the housekeeping. Our room was not cleaned daily, and we had to request fresh towels ourselves. Even basic details were overlooked: used tea glasses remained in the room instead of being cleared away, which is not what one expects from a luxury hotel. We specifically chose this hotel because we were looking forward to relaxing by the pool and enjoying lunch at the pool bar. However, when we asked about it, we were informed that the pool bar was still closed because “the season had not started yet.” This was in June, which was both surprising and disappointing. It would have been helpful if this had been communicated before our arrival. The restaurant experience was also inconsistent. At lunch, the service from one staff member was particularly unfriendly and unwelcoming. We had originally planned to enjoy the tasting menu for dinner, but after the lunch experience, we were already hesitant. When we did dine there that evening, the same waiter seated us in the very back of an almost empty restaurant, despite several front-row tables with beautiful views being available. After I raised the issue, another waiter stepped in, moved us to a much better table, and provided excellent service for the rest of the evening. He was professional, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. Unfortunately, this positive interaction could not make up for the overall experience, and we chose to eat outside the hotel for the remainder of our stay. To make matters worse, we experienced problems with both the hot water and the shower. Despite reporting the issue, nothing was resolved, and we ended up taking cold showers on two of the three nights we stayed. On a positive note, parking is free, which was appreciated. Overall, while the hotel may have four-star and design facilities, the service, maintenance, and attention to guests fell well short of that standard. With significant improvements, this property could live up to its rating, but based on our experience, I would rate it 2 out of 4 stars. Service: 1

the hotel overall is great, they have stunning rooms and an exceptional view in every part of the hotel. Nice pool area and meals. Just maybe they can add more wardrobe to the rooms and some umbrella to the pool area for shade. Service: 5

All in all, the Roxanich Winery and Design Hotel clearly has many strenghts, but also striking downsides that led to an overall „okay“, but very mixed experience.The pros: 1) Design, 2) Wines, 3) View: the Roxanich hotel convinces by its delicate design and style. The rooms are very modern and there is high quality furniture everywhere on the inside of the hotel. The wines are very special, natural and they taste very well but different compared to regular wines from mass/industrial production. The view from the hotel‘s terrace and from the pool to the Mirna river valley is just breathtaking.The cons: 1) Service, 2) Food, 3) Technical equipment/functioning in general: the quality of the staff is just way too low for an exclusive hotel in the higher-priced segment. The service staff from the restaurant as well as from the reception would forget simple orders („One portion of scambled eggs please“) or wishes basically everyday which after a while was very annoying, because you had to repeat anything for many times. Some employees are not really friendly and seem to be bored or bothered by their job ‍ Others however were entertaining, funny, and friendly. Also, the housekeeping team did not manage to fill up our shower gel for an entire week, which means that you would always have to walk to the reception before taking a shower ‍♂️Caution: you better not try any special liquors from the bar when the waiter proposes you to „just try“ unless you want to find a 20 EUR bill for a shot of Japanese whiskey when you receive the overall invoice For food, basically the same applies: the quality (no matter if it‘s breakfast or dinner) is just not near being good enough for an exclusive restaurant. The price-quality-ratio does not fit. Regarding the functioning of (technical) equipment, many things in the hotel just didn‘t work. You basically cannot use the wellness area, because once the sauna is being turned on, the room would heat up to 40‘C, which is a pretty high temperature to chill and relax Moreover, the ventilator in our bathroom wasn‘t working, which made the shower experience super steamy ‍♂️ Some sunbeds near the pool were broken, but I am guessing the staff just never checks it.All in all, I can clearly recommend the Roxanich hotel for wine lovers who are happy with an exceptional view from the terrace in a stylish hotel. For those who have high demands with regards to service, gastronomy, and want to stay at a place where everything works just fine, I do not recommend to book a room here at this price level.To finish, find a picture of the stunning view from the pool below
