Outside, a quiet line forms. All you can hear are faint noises from a radio and the clattering of pans coming from inside. From start to end, this is an experience unlike any other - for a tourist far from the streets of Shibuya. My entrance is shortly preceded by the sound of a diner exclaiming what I can only assume to be them giving thanks for an excellent meal, followed by a signal by the chef that I can take a seat. Inside, 7 seats, lined up at the counter, chef behind, all sitting in quiet enjoyment. Slurp, clank, look up, pass the ticket, look down, look up, take the bowl, slurp, look up, slurp, look up, slurp, empty bowl. The chef doesn’t speak much - he doesn’t have to - his food does all the talking. Rich broth, thick slabs of soft meat, precisely cooked noodles, all the ingredients you want from the perfect bowl of ramen. For all the noise of big chains and insta-famous establishments, this place gives you what you actually seek - ramen. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
