The food, atmosphere and overall service here is 5*, but they really let themselves down when it came to an issue with a drink. My partner and I attended 'foxenbury' today and it was brilliant, I enjoyed 3 beavertown neck oils from the bar inside (one of my absolute favourite beers) with no issue, then noticed the outdoor bar had opened. The next neck oil I ordered from the outside bar frankly was terrible, it tasted rubbery and like gas and, whilst it's not like me to raise a complaint, I had to make the staff aware and see if it could be rectified. Instead the staff insisted that it was the same as the ones I'd been served inside and basically refused to help or make amends. I grudgingly tried to drink the rest of it but gave up halfway through and went back inside to order another from the good pipes inside. I even then pointed out to who i believe was the manager or landlady that you could even see a difference in the colour between my unfinished outside beer and the fresh inside one, but nothing was done for me or for future customers. In my experience in hospitality, it's no problem to assume the customer is right and make amends by replacing their drink and investigating the issue, but this was not the approach of the fox, essentially making me waste £6.50, not a cheap pint. I really like the fox, after finding it only a couple of weeks ago, but this sort of experience leaves a really sour taste, pun intended. Food: 5 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £20–30

I returned to The Fox at Penllyn over the weekend for a birthday celebration, and I'm glad to say this gem continues to exceed expectations. The menu strikes that perfect balance between creative flair and comforting classics, with every dish delivering impressive flavour at prices that are good value for money. The cheese & bacon burger remains an absolute showstopper. Meanwhile, the braised pork cheek was rich, full of flavour, and showcased real culinary skill. The team strike that ideal balance of being attentive without hovering, friendly without being overfamiliar, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. They clearly take pride in what they do, and it shows. Whether you're celebrating something special or simply looking for a tasty meal, The Fox at Penllyn deserves a spot on your must-visit list. I'll certainly be back for a third visit soon! Price per person: £30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
