Our first visit and we were not disappointed. Staff were very attentive. Food was really good. We both had burgers. Honestly the tastiest food we have had for some time. But the latte coffee was fantastic. I would recommend this wee cracker. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £30–40

Despite Google Maps saying this establishment was "busier than usual", it was not, at least I hope so! Being a Saturday night in mid August and every place else being absolutely mobbed, the Red Squirrel was relatively peaceful, which I would assume is an anomaly. It's only a block or 2 away from the beaten track of tourism, which is why I looked here. Travelers will find this place, tourists may not. It is well worth the find. First, the staff was incredibly amicable, genuinely helpful and sincere. Second, the food was great. I ordered the fish & chips, the batter was crispy, the fish was flakey and flavorful. After all, if you're gonna serve fish & chips in this part of the world, it's gotta be good because the competition is stiff. And here, it is very good. Third, the beer selection is excellent, the kind of place that makes you want to start at the 1st tap and work your way down the line, a collection that's more than the mass-produced ales that you can find at any pub. This alone will encourage my return. Fourth, the playlist in here is quality. Toe tapping, some familiar, some new. Not overwhelming, but complimentary to the vibe. Bluesy, pop, modern, keep your Shazam app handy. You may want to add some of these songs to your own playlist. I'm US based, but I'm in Edinburgh once or twice a month. I always search for joints like this. I found it. Great place. I'll be back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £20–30
