What a wonderful spot filled with welcoming staff and delicious coffee / food. Needed caffeine on a recent roadtrip between Whanganui and Taranaki and we found this place by chance. I’m so glad we spotted it as it had the most delicious caramel slice I’ve had in NZ & my husband was equally in love with his ginger crunch slice. We will definitely be back to try a proper breakfast & appreciate how important this cafe is to the community and those passing through! Had lunch at Renate's Cafe in Patea today. My friend and I each had a Chicken, Cranberry, and cheese panini with a side of chips and a large Latte. The penini had a slightly crisp chewy crust with a soft fluffy centre. The chicken was well cooked but moist. It was complimented by a very creamy cheese, possibly Brie, and a dash of Cranberry sauce. The chips were fresh and crispy with a light fluffy centre. They were not greasey and were exactly how I think hot chips should be. My friend had a Coke while I had a Latte. The Latte was creamy yet full bodied and thoroughly satisfying. Everything tasted good, and dare I say it, made with love. Our food was reasonably priced and we will definitely return. The atmosphere was relaxed and invited. The staff and owners warm and welcoming. Aside from the cabinet and menu food selection there was freshly baked rye bread and preserves for sale. Renate's is well worth the drive. Had mother's day lunch and it was delicious, service warm and welcoming and good selection of menu and cabinet food. Will be back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
