Never ending choices of South Indian style dishes, ideal for both vegetarians and non vegetarians. Prices are not cheap but considering the manpower, its understandable. Opted for Ikan Bawal Masala..which was thick and delicious. However the gravies and veggies were below par. Price per person: RM 20–40 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

They need to improve on decor, ambience and appearance. For the kind of crowd that they attract, they need to spend some money on the above. Food is nothing to shout about. Even basic items like sambar and "thanni saar" were below par. Chicken sambal tasted bland. Payasam was caked up and far too sweet. And this is just to mention a few. Service could have been friendlier and much more courteous. We were not happy with the receipt, if you can call it one as it was just a written slip. Plenty of room for improvement. If you're looking for an authentic banana leaf rice experience, Restoran Rajes is a hidden gem that delivers both quality and variety. This review will walk you through what makes this restaurant special. The Banana Leaf Set: The star of the show is their original banana leaf rice set. The moment your food arrives on the fresh banana leaf, you know you're in for a treat. The rice is perfectly cooked, and the way they present the food on the leaf is both traditional and appetizing. Variety of Options: What sets Rajes apart is their impressive variety of side dishes and curries. Each visit can be a new experience as you mix and match different combinations. They offer: Multiple curry options Various vegetable dishes Different types of papadam Fresh chutneys and pickles Range of protein options (fish, chicken, mutton) Taste and Flavors: The food here is what we'd call "soul food" - it's comforting, flavorful, and satisfying. Each curry has its own distinct taste, and the spices are well-balanced. The vegetables are fresh and perfectly cooked, maintaining their texture while absorbing the flavors of the spices. Atmosphere: The restaurant has a welcoming vibe that adds to the dining experience. While it maintains the casual feel of a typical banana leaf restaurant, it's clean and well-organized. The bustling atmosphere adds to the authentic dining experience. Service: The staff is attentive and happy to explain different dishes to newcomers. They're quick to refill your sides and ensure your banana leaf is never empty. Value for Money: Given the quantity and quality of food served, the prices are very reasonable. The portions are generous, and you can always ask for refills of vegetables and curry. Tips for First-Time Visitors: Try the original banana leaf set as your base Don't hesitate to ask for explanations about different dishes Feel free to request refills of vegetables and curry Try eating with your hands for the authentic experience (though spoons are available) Best Time to Visit: For the best experience, try to arrive during regular meal times when the food is freshest. Lunch hours are typically the busiest but also when you'll find the full range of dishes available. Conclusion: Restoran Rajes offers more than just a meal - it's a complete dining experience. Whether you're a banana leaf rice veteran or trying it for the first time, you'll appreciate the variety, quality, and soul they put into their food. It's a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience authentic Indian cuisine in a welcoming environment. Recommendation: Highly recommended for both newcomers to banana leaf rice and experienced enthusiasts. Don't forget to try their special curries and ask about the day's special items.
