If you've never tried Rey's Restaurant, I highly recommend giving it a visit. While I can't tell you much about the food from our experience, I can tell you a lot about Rey's character. My wife and I were passing through the area after a long day of traveling and needed a place to eat. We chose Rey's Restaurant, placed our order, and were looking forward to a good meal. A few minutes after our server took our order, the lights flickered once—and then went out completely. After about 10 minutes, it became clear that the power outage wasn't going to be a short one. Rey addressed the dark but still crowded dining room and explained that the power would likely be out for some time. He assured everyone that he would do everything he could to make the situation as enjoyable as possible. Unfortunately, after a long day on the road, we were pretty hungry and didn't have the flexibility to wait it out, so we decided to leave. Before heading out, however, we found Rey and had a wonderful conversation with him. Rey insisted on giving us some desserts to take with us as a small consolation—of course, at no charge. We explained that we were just passing through and that while it was an incredibly kind offer, it really wasn't necessary. He wouldn't take no for an answer. He insisted that we take some desserts with us and told us that if we were ever back in the area, we should come visit him again. I don't know if this is simply an example of North Carolina hospitality, but I can tell you that I wouldn't necessarily expect this kind of class act from a restaurant owner where we live. And yes, we accepted Rey's generous offer. I can now also attest that **the desserts are excellent!** We may not have gotten to experience the full menu, but we certainly got to experience something just as memorable: **Rey's hospitality and character.**.
