We stopped by the River Raisin Distillery on a whim and were greeted by friendly staff, fun cocktails, and delicious food. Of their three in-house spirits, which they provided samples upon request, we found their agave the smoothest, but we thought all three would be good in cocktails. My husband got their in-house version of an old-fashioned, which was very smooth, and I got the Sunrise, which was presented beautifully (I should have taken a picture!) and had no bite whatsoever. They also brought us a sample of their frozen orange cream cocktail for dessert and it reminded us of an orange cream cooler from Olga's, but with coconut - a great combination! For food we started out with their giant pretzel, which was piping hot and had a crispy outside, chewy inside, and was served with both honey mustard and nacho cheese dipping sauces. The sauces weren't anything out of the ordinary, but the pretzel was delicious.and giant enough that we ended up sharing a sandiwich for dinner. And what a sandwich it was! We got their Pulled Pork Cubano with tots at the recommendation of their chef and were not disappointed. Hands-down it is probably the most flavorful cubano-style sandwich I've ever had. The pork was flavorful in its own right, but the sandwich also had a pickled relish that added a hint of zing. It was served on bread that was toasted just right to keep the whole thing from getting soggy, which made the two halves perfect as a hand-held dish to share. We'll be back to try one of their three grilled cheese options in the future!
