Tom was a very gracious host, especially for the time we came for breakfast! (7:00am) he was sociable asking where we were in town from. He also offered me and my significant other to stay as long as we wanted since we weren’t able to check into our stay until 2 PM. My orange juice was pretty watered down unfortunately. The oatmeal was also diluted with plenty of oat milk. Nonetheless, the atmosphere within this establishment is absolutely beautiful for breakfast! We took a red eye flight across the country and had a reservation for Rivera, the view during breakfast was incredible! We came to Riviera for lunch last week. It was our 10th anniversary and we had a full day of things planned, but we'd decided to start it with lunch at Riviera because, I freely admit, we're big Top Chef fans. The experience of eating there was mixed. The good news: the food was so delicious. We had the Polpetti di Fabio as a starter and couldn't believe how good the meatballs were.(The gentleman at the valet service recommended them on our way in.) And the red sauce -- I'm picky. I make my own sauce at home and I rarely like it at a restaurant but this was wonderful. My husband also had the Italian Cuban and thought it was great. The bad news: appallingly bad service, and so ironic considering Fabio was known for his customer service on the show. The restaurant, which is in a hotel, was almost entirely empty. The hostess was polite to us, but I noticed later she was sitting in a booth, out of sight of the hostess stand, and didn't see while several people came up to the podium and then walked away. Worse, though, our waitress (who was also the bartender) seemed vaguely annoyed we were there, and took our orders with all the enthusiasm of a wet noodle. Terse, one or two word answers, no smiles -- at least for us. We could see her chatting animatedly with the manager, who gave us a breezy, "Everything okay here?" as he walked past; he was gone before we could reply. I had to call her over to replace my silverware/napkin because when I opened it, the napkin was stained; she did bring me another, but didn't apologize for that happening or act as if a dirty napkin was something you wouldn't want your customers to get. She didn't ask if we wanted coffee or dessert (we did, and would have liked to sit and enjoy the nice weather (the restaurant has an inside/outside but is open air). We left shaking our heads. We came in dressed up, excited to start our anniversary day out, and we did have good-tasting food, but we left subdued and deflated. The gentleman running the valet stand was a thousand times more outgoing and friendly than anyone we encountered in the restaurant. Although the food was really good, i'd never make the effort to go there again.
